Steve Jones
Professor of Clinical Medical Education and Honorary Consultant Physician
Steve graduated from Newcastle in 1990, trained in the North East and became a Consultant Physician, Specialising in Diabetes and Endocrinology in 2001 at James Cook University Hospital. He has been heavily involved in medical student training since that time holding a number of senior roles at Newcastle University. He was the first Clinical Dean at the Universities Branch Campus in Malaysia and on his return became director of medical studies during which time a new curriculum was introduced. He has been the Head of the School of Medical Education since 2018.

He is a GMC Associate leading teams approving 2 new UK medical schools and also a team leader developing the KPIs for the Clinical Assessment element of the Medical Licencing Assessment. He has a number of roles with the Medical Schools Council including chairing the National COVID Clinical Placements Group which has provided guidance to UK medical schools and medical students over the last 12 months. He was the UK President for the two UK-Russia Medics Conferences 2019 and 2020.
