Dr. Marina Kalinina has been professionally engaged in cross-border cooperation in the North since 1990s. Between 1993 and 2010 she was a Director of the Norwegian-Pomor University Centre in Arkhangelsk, which served as a resource center for international university projects, academic mobility programmes and Scandinavian studies. In 2010-2016 as the NArFU Vice-Rector for international cooperation, and from 2016 until present, as the Advisor to the NArFU Rector for international cooperation, Dr. Kalinina has been dealing with internationalization and modernization of higher education in the North, development of regional international cooperation, and implementation of multilateral research and educational projects.
In 2011-2017 Dr. Kalinina was a chair and co-chair of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council Joint Working Group on Education and Research. From 2013 till present Marina Kalinina has been engaged in coordination of the Northern Dimension Institute, and since 2019 in her capacity as the Action Steering Group member – in the NDI Think Tank Action project aimed at developing a pool of expertise for the Northern Dimension Partnerships and supporting evidence-based decision-making.
For more than a decade Dr. Kalinina has been contributing to collaboration within the University of the Arctic and to the international association`s capacity building. As the UArctic Vice-President Interregional Cooperation, Dr. Kalinina provides strategic guidance to support circumpolar and interregional cooperation within UArctic on multiple levels. Under Dr. Kalinina's supervision the UArctic Research Office hosted by the Northern (Arctic) Federal University actively promotes UArctic in Russia and provides opportunities for engagement of UArctic Russian member institutions in educational activities, academic mobility programs and research projects within and outside the Circumpolar North.
