Green Jobs: Education and Careers to Address Climate Change
With climate change a pressing concern for the sector, the demand for graduates with the skills and passion to protect and preserve the environment has never been higher.

International Labour Organisation defines Green Jobs as "decent jobs that contribute to, preserve, or restore the environment, be they in traditional sectors such as manufacturing and construction, or in newer and quickly growing green sectors such as renewable energy and energy efficiency". An increase in environmental legislation has led to a greater number of opportunities within pollution control, waste management, recycling and carbon management. Likewise, increased public awareness of environmental issues has led to considerable investment in sustainable development and renewable energy sources.

Leading higher education institutions in Russia and UK are working closely with businesses, governments, local communities, non-profit organisations and associations to co-create the vision and implement the plans, policies and processes required for an inclusive green economy. By doing this, universities play an essential part in preventing large-scale human suffering due to climate instability, ecosystem, degradation and economic disruptions.

The first day of the forum will provide a platform for leading UK and Russian universities to share experience and identify areas for potential collaboration in preparing students to participate in the just transition to a green and more inclusive economy. The second day will feature talks of UK universities for Russian students where education programmes (leading to green professions) will be presented to promote opportunities for studying in the UK.
