Caroline Dessent

Professor of Physical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry (@ChemistryatYork). Her research group (@DessentLab) works on photoactive molecules and ensembles, with applications in biological systems and human health. As the Chair of the Equality and Diversity Group in Chemistry, she leads on all equality, diversity and inclusion work conducted by the department.

She led the Chemistry Department's successful recent Gold Athena Swan submission. Caroline has been a keen advocate of supporting the careers of women in science for many years, and has recently taken on the role of Chair of the Science Faculty's Athena Swan Working Group, and is a member of the University's Athena SWAN steering group.

Caroline is leading a number of new projects to support the career development of Black and Minority Ethnic students and staff in Chemistry, and has established a working group to Decolonise and Diversify the Curriculum in Chemistry.
